A crime scene has been declared following the sudden death of a baby girl in a high-rise on the Gold Coast.

Police are investigating the fatality which was reportedly at the Bela by Mosaic building on Peerless Avenue, Mermaid Beach.

Emergency services were called to a home just after 8am on Tuesday.

The infant’s age has not been released.

Residents said numerous marked and unmarked police vehicles were on the scene, with officers and detectives.

The Courier Mail reports a forensic police officer was spotted removing empty paper bags and other equipment from a truck before returning to the high-rise.

Gold Coast Police child investigation and protection unit Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Aubort was at the scene.

Police have declared a crime scene while investigations continue.
