US President Joe Biden says ‘I plan on running’ for re-election in 2024

Joe Biden appears to confirm 2024 presidential run

US President Joe Biden says he plans to run for re-election in 2024 but is not prepared to announce it yet.

“I plan on running… but we’re not prepared to announce it yet,” Mr Biden said in an interview with NBC’s Today show before the White House Easter Egg Roll.

Mr Biden has said he intends to be the Democratic candidate in 2024 but has not made a formal announcement.

Both Mr Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have said they will run together.

Top White House advisers are set to make final decisions on launching Mr Biden’s re-election campaign, NBC News reported, citing several unidentified sources.

“The decision part is over, but he resents the pressure to have to announce what he’s already decided,” one source familiar with the matter told NBC.

Mr Biden was elected US President in November 2020 amid former POTUS Donald Trump repeating unsubstantiated claims that the Democrats were trying to steal the US election.

Elected at the age of 77, Mr Biden became the oldest US President in history.

It followed him being the 47th vice president under Barack Obama, from 2009 to 2017.

At the time, America was coming off the back of a global recession.

During their first term together, Mr Biden helped pass and then oversee the Recovery Act – the biggest economic recovery plan in US history – which led to long-term job growth and employment.
