Theresa May has confessed the naughtiest thing she ever did was run through a field of wheat as a child.
The British Prime Minister stuck to her conservative brand when she was asked on ITV Tonight what the “naughtiest thing” she ever did was.
“Oh, goodness me. Well, I suppose … Gosh. Do you know, I’m not quite sure. Nobody is ever perfectly behaved, are they?” she said, scrambling for an answer.
“I have to confess when me and my friends used to run through the fields of wheat, the farmers weren’t too pleased about that.”
Voters on social media poked fun at the Prime Minister for the benign confession.
“My god, hasn’t she lived,” one said on Twitter.
Another joked: “This is the political equivalent of saying ‘I am too much of a perfectionist’ in a job interview.”
Others suggested naughtier things she has done, and pointed out policies they disagreed with.
The hashtag #FieldsOfWheat began trending on Twitter.
Ms May, whose father was a vicar, also admitted she was a “bookish” child.
University of Queensland political science lecturer Joff Lelliott told The New Daily the Prime Minister’s lack of “human qualities” work against her.
“Theresa May is right at the centre of the campaign strategy, but Theresa May is not seen as particularly warm or someone voters can identify with,” Dr Lelliott said.
The interview came as the country heads to the polls on Thursday, after a campaign in which Ms May refused to do any live TV debates.
Labour Opposition Leader Jeremy Corbyn railed against Ms May for avoiding a debate as he made gains on her lead in the opinion polls.
