His approval rating is atrocious according to the latest Newspoll, but Opposition Leader Bill Shorten has found at least one voter who likes him. Like, really likes him.

On the campaign trail in the South Australian capital on Tuesday, Mr Shorten was walking the streets when Margo Carey zipped in on her mobility scooter.

Mr Shorten was happy to chat with Margo, but she seemed to want more out of their fledgling relationship.

“Now, come on, give us a kiss and a cuddle for the camera,” Margo said as she swiftly tackled the Labor leader onto her lap and aimed to plant a big wet kiss right on his lips.

Shorten seemed unsteady after the encounter, saying: “Good on you Margo, I think they need you playing for Collingwood, I reckon.”

Later asked why she was so keen for a PDA with the man campaigning for the prime ministership, the 49-year-old replied: “Because I’m an attention seeker”.

Earlier in the day, Mr Shorten had some strong words on presumptive-Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

He said the flamboyant businessman would be “difficult” and he would prefer to see Democrat Hillary Clinton in the White House.

His tour of South Australia also included a $500 million pledge to expand Adelaide’s tram network.
