Before and after the bushfire devastation: incredible aerial images

Stunning new images have emerged showing the devastating effects of an inferno that decimated the Western Australian town of Yarloop almost a fortnight ago.

The fire killed two people and destroyed more than 160 buildings in the town and its surrounding region.

The Rebuild Yarloop group attracted 800 members on Facebook in the space of a week, including tradespeople and suppliers, to help rebuild the town.

• One home destroyed in Victorian bushfire
• WA residents ‘warned’ of fire

However, not everyone was ready to move forward, with calls mounting for a parliamentary committee to investigate how authorities handled the devastating fire which was sparked by a lightning strike, and travelled across the shires of Harvey and Waroona.

It has been another tough summer for firefighters, with bushfires raging across the country.

Fire ripped through  the towns of Separation Creek and Wye River, south east of popular Victorian tourist spot of Lorne, on the Great Ocean Road, on Christmas Day, burning 116 homes.

A number of fierce fires have continued to trouble that state’s emergency services, with bushfires at Crib Point, southeast of Melbourne, and at Kyneton, north of Melbourne.

About 130 firefighters, backed by 26 trucks, three water-bombing helicopters and a fixed-wing fire-spotting plane, were called on to help extinguish the Crib Point blaze.

These before and after photos taken from the air, of the WA town of Yarloop, show the devastation left behind after fire swept through the region.
