Man charged over ACT assault

The 20-year-old handed himself into police on Friday after disturbing CCTV footage of the New Year’s Day assault was released in a bid to find the attacker.

The Braddon man has been charged with recklessly inflicting grievous bodily harm and bailed to appear in court on January 15.
The CCTV footage showed the victim in conversation with a man outside a city convenience store when a third man approaches from the side and punches him in the head.
The victim was knocked to the ground and left unconscious, requiring emergency surgery on his jaw.
Constable Jarrad Drennan said it was a “miracle” the victim’s injuries weren’t worse.
“We’re lucky we’re not standing here today talking about a death,” he told reporters in Canberra.
The victim, a Canberra man in his 20s, is now recovering at home.
