Bishop declares ‘black Friday for France’
Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has described the Paris terror attacks as “a black Friday for France and the world”.
“We stand in solidarity with the French people in condemning these actions,” Bishop said.
• Paris rocked by deadly terror attacks
• Terrorism threat ‘worse than ever’
• How Tony Abbott made Australia a more dangerous place
“We understand six separate terrorist attacks occurred around 9.30pm, in the heart of Paris. It’s apparent French people and their way of life is under attack.
“We don’t know who carried out the horrendous attacks, but it has the hallmarks of recent ISIL/Daesh and similar organisations.”
Bishop said Australians in Paris should stay where they are, if safe. No travel will be possible until the state of emergency has been lifted.
There have been no reports of Australians being injured in the attacks.
