Cricket legend Shane Warne is … writing a song

Shane Warne has revealed he is working on a song, and carries a pen and pad with him wherever he goes.

The former star, who took 708 Test wickets in 145 matches for Australia, is better known for his spin bowling than prose.

But he has been working on the song since 2014 – and says it is intended to be emotional.

Warne said his tune was a mixture between a pop song and a ballad, and resembled the songs, ‘Time After Time’, ‘The Scientist’, and ‘Midnight in Chelsea’.

“It’s still a work in progress,” he told The Guardian.

“I’ve been so busy that I haven’t had a chance to finish it off.

“I always carry a notepad and pen around with me and anytime I come up with a line or hear something, I write it down.”

But before fans get too excited about a potential pop career, Warne has said he won’t be performing the song.

“I’m writing it for some of my friends, see what they think of it and then if anyone wants to use it they can.

“Otherwise, it’s just my own fun exercise to say I wrote a song.”

Warne has plenty of friends in the music game who might be able to perform his masterpiece.

He added: “Chris Martin from Coldplay is one of my closest friends.

“Ed Sheeran has become a good mate of mine, and I’m very lucky to have known Elton John for over 20 years.”

Shane Warne is clearly enjoying his time off.

In October, the ex-cricketer took up the cause of Toobs, the embattled Australian snack facing extinction.

And he is currently in the United States, promoting his Cricket All-Stars tour, which features several legends of the game – like Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Muttiah Muralitharan and Wasim Akram – playing a series of Twenty20 fixtures.
