Coalition would ‘win easily’ under Turnbull: poll

The popularity sugar-hit from last week’s Liberal leadership spill has continued to boost the polls in the Coalition’s favour.
Results from the latest Morgan Poll indicated if a Federal election were held now, the Liberal-National Party would “win easily”.
The poll has shown increased support for the Coalition following the ousting of Tony Abbott and installation of Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

On a two-party-preferred basis, support for the Coalition rose to 55 per cent in September – up 12 per cent on figures prior to the spill.
Primary support also increased, up to 48 per cent – its highest level since the 2013 Federal election.
For the ALP, primary support dropped seven per cent to 29.5 per cent, the lowest for the party since July 2012.
For the other parties, the Greens polled 13 per cent, Palmer United Party 1.5 per cent, Katter’s Australian Party 1.5 per cent, while Independents and others received 8.5 per cent.
Government confidence also increased among the 2059 electors polled for the survey, with 42.5 per cent of Australians believing the country was “heading in the right direction”, up 7.5 per cent, compared to 39.5 per cent on the negative.
“The positive response for Turnbull gives our new Prime Minister and his team a strong mandate to tackle the ‘cash economy’ and the wage rorts that go hand-in-hand,” Roy Morgan’s Gary Morgan said.
