Two men have been crushed to death by falling truck parts in a workplace accident in Sydney’s west.

The men were trapped in a shipping container just after 11:00am at Westrucks, a truck body manufacturing centre.

A third man was hit by the falling parts, believed to include several tonnes of timber and fibreglass sheets, but managed to get out of the container.

Fire and Rescue NSW Inspector Kernin Lambert said 10 workers from nearby factories rushed to help the trapped workers and attempted to lift the sheets.

However, rescue crews needed to use hydraulic equipment to shore up the sheets.

By the time paramedics reached the men, they had died.

Inspector Lambert praised the workers from nearby factories for their efforts to save the pair.

“The actions of the surrounding workers were extremely courageous,” he said.

“They placed their own lives in imminent danger to try to save those workers who were trapped.

“That was an absolutely magnificent act.”

The man who escaped the falling sheets was taken to Fairfield Hospital in a serious condition.

The incident is being investigated by WorkCover NSW and police.
