Residents across Melbourne have described feeling their houses shake as a 2.7-magnitude quake struck the city’s outer south-east on Tuesday night.

Geoscience Australia recorded the earthquake at Pakenham at 11.40pm, and by 12.20am, said it had received more than 100 calls about the quake.

By midnight, the hashtag #earthquake was trending on Twitter in Melbourne, with residents describing their houses shaking and jolting.

The quake was felt right across Melbourne, with accounts of tremors coming from Montrose, Noble Park, Rowville and Lilydale.

There were also several reports from the inner city.

The Victoria State Emergency Service said there were no reports of damage or injury.
