A Melbourne student travelling with family is among the 162 passengers on missing AirAsia flight QZ8510.

Indonesian-born Kevin Alexander Soetjipto had been living in Australia on a student visa, and was studying commerce at Monash University in Melbourne.

It is understood Mr Soetijipto was travelling with his sister and another relative from Indonesia to Singapore when the plane vanished over the Java Sea.

He was due to finish his university course in 2015, according to his LinkedIn page.

A Monash University spokeswoman told the Herald Sun the university community was praying for those on the flight.

“We are deeply saddened to learn this news in relation to one of our valued student community,” Monash spokeswoman Stacey Mair said.

“We will be offering counselling support to Kevin’s friends and fellow classmates.”

“We offer our sincere thoughts and prayers to all of the families of those onboard the flight.”

Mr Soetijipto was travelling with his sister Cindy Clarissa Soetijipto, who is also listed on the flight manifest.

An Indonesian biology teacher and her 53-year-old father are also among those on missing flight QZ8510.

According to the Strait Times, Florentina Widodo was travelling with her father Nanang Widodo to meet her Singaporean boyfriend.

Ms Widodo and her boyfriend Andy Paul Chen both studied at the National University of Singapore.

Mr Chen was flanked by family members at Changi Airport in Singapore and said to be in a state of shock.

“She is my girlfriend. I’m flying to Surabaya to see my girlfriend’s family,” Mr Chen told reporters.

Mr Widodo shared a photo of he and his daughter on board the AirAsia flight on Facebook shortly before it disappeared, making it his profile picture.

According to his Facebook profile, the father-of-one works as a medical practitioner and lecturer, and is married.
