Napthine govt trails in polls

The Coalition government continues to trail in the polls just two weeks from the Victorian state election.

According to a Fairfax Ipsos poll, Labor is ahead of the Coalition on a two-party-preferred basis, 56 per cent to 44 per cent, despite Premier Denis Napthine’s continued dominance as preferred leader.

Dr Napthine leads Opposition Leader Daniel Andrews as preferred premier, 42 per cent to 39 per cent.

However, Victorian voters are warming up to Mr Andrews, who has seen his preferred leader vote rise three per cent since October.

The government has also placed anti-Islam, anti-multicultural party Rise Up Australia ahead of the Greens on preference cards.

Dr Napthine this week announced the Greens would be placed last on how-to-vote preference cards on the November 29 election.

Rise Up Australia leader Daniel Nalliah, who wants to cut Australia’s ‘Muslim intake’, told Fairfax he had been in negotiations with the Napthine government for three months about support in the lower house.
