Newman denies seat switch

Queensland Premier Campbell Newman’s office has strenuously denied fresh claims he will be jumping to a safe Liberal National Party seat ahead of next year’s state election.

Reports are circulating on social media that Mr Newman will run for the LNP safe seat of Moggill as he battles almost record-low satisfaction levels.

When asked by The New Daily whether Mr Newman intended to run for the seat of Moggill, a spokesperson dismissed the speculation as “absolute rubbish”, saying the premier was committed to the seat of Ashgrove.

Despite LNP leading on a two-party-preferred basis in the latest Newspoll, the premier’s seat of Ashgrove is on a knife-edge, with his satisfaction levels at a low 35 per cent.

The current MP for Moggill, Dr Bruce Flegg, will today learn if he will be re-endorsed for the seat, after failing to declare all contact with his lobbyist son in 2012.
