Revolution? There’s now an app for that

A new app on the market is helping like-minded online activists locate each other, get together and organise action for the social causes they care about.

Brigade, created by Napster founder and former Facebook president Sean Parker, helps you find which of your friends share your political beliefs.

Since leaving Napster and Facebook behind, Parker has worked on numerous social activism and political projects, and with Brigade he is bringing all of that experience together.

The app had 10,000 people sign up for it prior to its release. With a host of tools already available, they plan to add many more by the end of the year.

“We want to help make our democracy more vibrant, more participatory and more responsive to the needs of ordinary citizens,” Brigade CEO Matt Mahan says.

“We do that by helping people come together and declare their beliefs and values.”

He says they want people to use the app to come together, organise themselves and lobby government and policy-making representatives to create the change they desire.

The app asks users to “take a position” on various questions such as immigration, medicinal marijuana and nutrition.

Whether you agree or disagree with these questions can then be seen by other users and connections can be made.
