The easiest way to cook rice without it sticking to the saucepan
Did you know that Australian farmers yield more rice per hectare than any other country in the world?
According to Sunrice, up to 40 million people across the globe eat Australian rice every day.
Cooking it may not be rocket science but many people have trouble with under or overcooking it, and preventing it from sticking to the pot.

What is the easiest way to cook rice?
The easiest way to cook rice manually is in a saucepan. You will need a measuring cup, saucepan, salt, wooden spoon and a fork.
- Pour water into a saucepan with a lid. For every cup of rice, pour two cups of water.
- Bring water to the boil and mix one teaspoon of salt into the water. Another option is to add olive oil to the water when boiling.
- Pour the rice into the saucepan and stir once to eliminate the stickiness.
- Cover the saucepan with the lid. Turn down heat and let it simmer for 18 minutes.
- Remove saucepan from heat then leave in saucepan for another five minutes.
- Fluff it with a fork to separate the grains.
Should I wash the rice before cooking it?
Yes, washing it before cooking it removes the excess starch from broken grains.
This has little effect on the nutrients and produces a fluffier result. It also prevents clumping and leaves it tasting fresh.
Can I cook rice in the microwave?
Yes, you can cook it in the microwave.
- Using a microwave safe container, combine one cup of rice to two cups of water.
- Add half a teaspoon of salt.
- Microwave uncovered on a high power level for 10 minutes until it is tender and the liquid is absorbed. You will see holes in it where the steam has escaped.
- Remove the food and cover the top of your container.
- Microwave it for four more minutes.
- Remove it again and let it stand for five minutes covered. If it is still crunchy, microwave it for another minute.
- When it is the texture that you desire, eat and enjoy!
