The Bachelor: Olena asks Richie the hard questions

“What if they don’t like you?”
With that question, New South Wales makeup artist Olena won the hearts of Australian viewers and bachelor Richie Strahan lost his nerve.
The stunning 23-year-old asked the tough question during an intimate chat with Richie about upcoming hometown visits, during which the girls will have the opportunity to introduce their suitor to their parents.
While Richie had spent the majority of his time questioning the other contestants about their parents (“Are they tough?”), Olena was the only one daring enough to turn the spotlight back on the bachelor.
Her sentiments echoed those of anyone who has ever been in a similar position and worried that their parents won’t approve of their chosen partner.
It was a move that jarred Richie, a man clearly unused to pondering whether people won’t like him.
“Um,” he said, clearly thrown off guard, “no, that’s a good question.”
“If the parents don’t like me, they think that I’m not the man for their daughter … um, I guess that’s a conversation I’m going to have to have with her and find out if that’s something that we can work out together.”
Social media erupted with praise for the Ukrainian-born beauty for honestly voicing her concerns.
Richie can't be the only one doing the interviewing here. go Olena for taking control of this narrative. #TheBachelorAU

OLENA is the only one not working over time to impress Richie. I like that. May not get her a red rose, but impressive. #TheBachelorAU

It was a rare moment of frankness in an episode that seemed preoccupied less with feelings and more with physical prowess.
The remaining girls – Faith, Rachael, Olena, Alex and Nikki – were forced to prove they could pitch a tent, paddle a canoe, light a campfire, cook and ride a go-kart.
Those who struggled – namely Olena – were questioned for their commitment to the cause.
“I’ve never been so interested in a girl that makes everything so challenging,” Richie remarked pensively.
Olena did not enjoy the campfire.
Olena’s obvious displeasure throughout a tent-pitching session and then later in a competitive go-kart race with Alex and Richie had viewers questioning whether she would be sent packing.
After all, Richie has made it abundantly clear throughout the series that a woman having “similar interests” to him is key and his “interests” all involve physical activity.
“Unfortunately for Olena, the other four of us girls seem to be quite comfortable in this sort of scenario and it probably makes her stand out more so,” Nikki observed.
However, bubbly Faith’s inability to articulate her feelings for Richie without giggling was apparently enough of a fatal flaw to see her sent home over Olena.
When the preview clip for Thursday night’s episode came on, it was clear why Olena had been kept around – her family’s ferocious grilling of Richie looked positively juicy.
Time to meet Olena’s parents. “Dad’s going to kill you.”
“I picked Olena up on a motorbike,” Richie proudly declares in the brief teaser clip.
“Dad’s going to kill you,” Olena’s delightfully deadpan sister shoots back.
Olena’s dad in particular, with his thick Ukrainian accent, caught the eye of most audience members, who were excited to see an emotional bloodbath of epic proportions.
Good luck, Richie. You’re going to need it.
