TV series applauds PM Turnbull’s ‘methodology’

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has found a political ally in Hollywood after he appeared to post a threat to the Australian Senate on social media.

On Monday, Mr Turnbull announced a double dissolution election would be called if the Upper House could not agree on two separate anti-trade union bills.

“The time for game playing is over. Parliament has been recalled to consider the ABCC and Registered Organisations Bills,” he posted to Twitter.

US Netflix TV series House of Cards replied, with a tweet from the perspective of protagonist President Frank Underwood – well-known for his scheming brutality.

“@TurnbullMalcolm I admire your methodology, Prime Minister,” they posted, “if you don’t like how the table is set, turn over the table.”

Underwood regularly addressed the audience in the American political drama, expressing admiration, criticism and scorn towards other characters.

Commenters drew parallels between the show – and the real-life Australian political sphere.

“Never has a table been reset so many times,” one said.

Another commented: “Even the US @HouseofCards Twitter account acknowledges Turnbull’s under-handedness”.
