The Bachelor has enthralled audiences across Australia for the past eight weeks, but it was a series of social media posts from a high-profile politician that stole the show during this week’s finale.

After 16 episodes and revolving dates with 19 different women, former lonely heart Sam Wood reduced his company to just one – Perth mother Snezana Markoski.

NSW Premier Mike Baird was there for all of the drama and joined a swag of reluctant men secretly enjoying the reality dating show on Thursday.

“Stuck at home on the couch with man-flu. Daughters have hijacked the TV and are watching The Bachelor. Going to be a loooong night,” he wrote.

“He [Sam Wood] seems very sincere for a guy who is two-timing, live on TV. This is only a 30 minute show, right?

“I thought he’d made his decision when he just kissed one of the girls! My daughters are laughing at me.”

Nothing was safe from Mr Baird’s satirical wrath.

Typically, the show uses sensational orchestral music to create drama, but the NSW Premier felt “a bit of Cold Chisel wouldn’t go astray”.

Mr Baird’s running commentary even drew unlikely parallels with the political arena.

But it was surely this tweet, that miraculously weaved the RBA into pop culture, that took the cake.

After Channel 10’s success with The Bachelor, Parliamentary Question Time could grace prime time television in the future – if Mr Baird’s final tweet is anything to go by.
