Carrie Bickmore’s brain cancer appeal takes over the TV
Breakfast television hosts around the country donned beanies on Monday morning following Carrie Bickmore’s powerful Gold Logie acceptance speech on Sunday evening.
Bickmore, 34, paid tribute to her late husband Greg, who battled brain cancer, putting on a blue beanie in a bid to raise awareness about the disease.

“I want to ask anybody that’s on TV in Australia tomorrow to whack on a beanie. I want to get the nation talking about brain cancer,” Bickmore said.
“It receives next to no funding, which is ludicrous because without funding more people are going to die.”
On Monday morning, #beaniesforbraincancer was the top trending hashtag in Melbourne as Sunrise and Today show hosts wore beanies on air.

Bickmore’s husband died in 2010 and often wore hats and beanies because he was embarrassed about his scars, she said.
Sunrise co-host David Koch praised Bickmore on-air on Monday morning and said she had used the Logies, a “frivolous” event, to shine the spotlight on something important.
He said she had delivered “one of the most powerful Gold Logie acceptance speeches in the history of the ceremony”.
“Her words are resonating across the nation this morning,” Koch said.
Today Show hosts Karl Stefanovic and Lisa Wilkinson also donned beanies on Monday morning, as did guests Hamish Blake and Andy Lee.
On Twitter, Bickmore said she had been “overwhelmed” by the response and was “extremely grateful”.
