Margot Robbie’s bizarre red-carpet style decision

In a serious case of sack the stylist, Australian golden girl Margot Robbie has made a rare fashion faux pas at the world premiere of her new film, Goodbye, Christopher Robin.
The 27-year-old actress, who so seldom gets it wrong in the style stakes, arrived on the red carpet this week with wet hair and yellow eyeshadow, wearing a flouncy, floral nightgown.
The Brock Collection dress was an unusual choice for Robbie, who typically favours more understated designers like Calvin Klein and Tom Ford.
The gown, covered in pink flowers and featuring a lace trim and corset-style bodice, took the increasingly popular statement-sleeve trend to another level.
The stunning Robbie, who plays the wife of author AA Milne in the film, paired the gown with matching flower-shaped drop earrings from Asprey London.
Not everyone disliked the look, with InStyle magazine deeming the dress “the perfect cool-girl wedding gown”.
But the look appeared to startle Robbie’s eight-year-old co-star Will Tilston, who greeted the blonde bombshell with wide eyes at the premiere.
Robbie wasn’t the only one to take the statement sleeve a step too far this week.
United States First Lady Melania Trump wore a similar style for her speech at a United Nations lunch in New York City, and it wasn’t a popular choice on social media.
The hot pink dress from Spanish designer Delpozo featured overblown shoulders that made Mrs Trump resemble a football quarterback.
Some on social media joked the First Lady appeared to be wearing a snuggie.
The eye-catching fuchsia dress – which doubles as a coat – retails for around $4000 and is made from wool. Naturally, Mrs Trump’s hot pink heels matched her clothing perfectly.
Actress Tracee Ellis Ross’s Chanel dress at Monday’s Emmy Awards also featured dramatic sleeves, but they were overwhelmed by an over-the-top mix of sparkles, feathers and bold silver belt.
When it comes to wearing the statement sleeve trend, less is most certainly more.
For lessons on how to pull the tricky look off with aplomb, Melania, Tracee and Margot could look to Indian actress Priyanka Chopra, who recently rocked the trend while attending an awards ceremony hosted by UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed.
Her white Christian Siriano gown had just the right amount of volume, balanced with a fitted skirt and subtle hair and makeup.
Another sleeve star was Westworld actress Angela Sarafyan, who stunned at the Emmys in a bright yellow Elizabeth Kennedy gown with voluminous bell sleeves.
The rest of Sarafyan’s off-the-shoulder gown was figure-hugging and the spectacular sleeves were accented with a delicate gathered detail.
