Everyone loves a wedding, especially if it is a celebrity coupling or, even more so, a royal one.

Here, a quick top 10 of the chicest, most memorable brides and grooms.

1. Princess Margaret and Anthony Armstrong Jones

Princess Margaret was a vision in an elegant full-skirted white silk gown, designed by the Queen’s favourite couturier, Norman Hartnell, for her wedding to Anthony Armstrong Jones in 1960. A diamond tiara is always a nice touch. Especially if is an actual crown jewel.

2. Princess Grace of Monaco and Prince Rainier

It’s a generally held opinion in the fashion world that the bridal benchmark is the breathtaking Grace Kelly when she married Prince Rainier in 1956, wearing a dress and veil designed by MGM costumer Helen Rose. The gown was made from 25 yards of silk taffeta and antique rose point lace and embellished with tiny pearl beads.

3. Jacqueline Kennedy and John F Kennedy

Another iconic gown is the intricate off-the-shoulder dress by New York designer Ann Lowe that Jackie wore when she married John F Kennedy in Newport, Rhode Island, in 1953. She completed her look with little white gloves and the most glorious embroidered veil.

4. Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourgh

Birkin’s white lace knit Pucci wedding dress left little to the imagination and summed up the late 60s when she married French icon Serge Gainsbourgh in 1969, complete with flowing hair and a flower crown.

5. Ellen de Generes and Portia di Rossi

This was a standout celebrity wedding, Portia in a very pretty traditional bridal gown and swept-up hair, while Ellen opted for white trousers, shirt and vest. Super chic and understated.

6. Carolyn Bessette and John Kennedy Jr

Carolyn Bessette married John Kennedy Jr in a gorgeous bias-cut silk column designed by Narciso Rodriguez, setting off a trend for simplicity and minimalism in a wedding dress that is still popular today, beautifully accessorised with a plain tulle veil and sheer white elbow length gloves.

7. Bianca and Mick Jagger

Bianca Jagger broke with tradition when she married Rolling Stone Mick Jagger in St Tropez in 1971, opting for a white skirt suit by Savile Row tailor Tommy Nutter. Four months pregnant and fabulously sexy, she wore nothing underneath the jacket, and a fashionable wide-brimmed hat.

8. Princess Diana and Prince Charles

It is without a doubt one of the most memorable wedding dresses in history. The dress designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel was emblematic of the excess of the eighties – poufy and elaborate – but Diana pulled it off with aplomb for her July 1981 wedding to Prince Charles. People were astonished at the amount of fabric that spilled everywhere when Diana alighted from her carriage – the gown’s 25-foot train is the longest in royal wedding history.

9. Kate Middleton and Prince William

Kate Middleton’s exquisite gown by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen was pitch perfect for her wedding to Prince William in 2011. The simplicity of the gown and veil, juxtaposed with a pearl and diamond crown, was both demure and glamorous.

10. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West

Kim got it absolutely right the second time around when she married Kanye West in Italy. While she is probably better known for revealing her physical assets, her wedding gown, by Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy was surprisingly chaste and absolutely gorgeous.
