Makeup giant Sephora to open in Melbourne

Popular French makeup store Sephora will open in Melbourne’s CBD just in time for the Christmas shopping frenzy.
The company’s Melbourne Central store will open its doors “before Christmas 2015” according to a statement issued this morning.

Sephora already has one Australian store in Sydney’s Pitt Street Mall, with plans to open another Sydney store in the Macquarie Centre in September.
The makeup giant was founded in Paris in 1970 and now has 2000 stores worldwide.
It is owned by luxury brands conglomerate Louis Vuitton and Moet Hennessy (LVMH).
After the Sydney store’s December 2014 opening, many criticised the company for failing to live up to its promise to end price gouging in Australia.
In an attempt to “not undercut local retailers”, the store’s prices were more or less in line with those offered in the United States.
Price comparisons conducted by Fairfax media at the time revealed some products were even being marked up, on top of the added cost of currency conversion.
