The Miss World 2014 winner was crowned this week, concluding a competition which proved the phrase du jour is no longer “world peace”.
Overall winner Rolene Strauss, aka Miss South Africa, took the crown with her answer to the question: “Why do you think you should be the next Miss World?”
“Unity, respect, forgiveness exist,” Ms Strauss, a medical student, summoned a host of buzz words in reply.
Here are some more zingers from the four other finalists – Hungary, United States, England and our own Australia – who prove that beauty is, well … beauty.
Miss Hungary: “First of all good evening or afternoon, I don’t know what’s the time.”
Miss United States: “Is Miss World outdated? Is it old-fashioned? I want to be Miss World so I can prove to everyone in this earth that no it’s not.”
Miss South Africa: “I believe that the story of my book tells always more meaningful than my cover.”
Miss England: “I would like to use my medical skills with my global health aspirations to work with the ethos of beauty with a purpose.”
Miss Australia: “I wanna be the next Miss World because throughout this journey I’ve learnt more than I ever ever thought that I would. I truly feel like I’ve found my purpose.”
