Style Advisor: Espadrilles

Name: Espadrilles
What is it: The braided rope sole and canvas, suede or leather upper is synonymous with European summers and style.
Origin: According to the Espadrille Store (where else?) espadrilles were invented at least 700 years ago in Spain. The shoe became an icon when French fashion designer Yves St Laurent commissioned a high heel style in the 1960s.
Styles: slip ons, lace-ups and sexy ribbons or ropes wound up the leg.
Who can wear them: Anyone. Espadrilles are extraordinarily comfy. But if you are worried about the size of your legs avoid the ribbons ties – they can shorten the leg.
Warning: Espadrilles styles can be hit and miss, choose wisely.
