Murderer escapes prison

Footage of a convicted murderer’s escape from prison was released this week, as Danelo Cavalcante continues to evade authorities.

Cavalcante escaped while in the prison’s exercise yard, just days after he was sentenced to life for the violent murder of his girlfriend.

Pies take the win

Collingwood’s “very happy” captain Darcy Moore lapped up the atmosphere at the MCG on Thursday night.

The Pies beat Melbourne in the first of the AFL finals by just seven points in front of more than 92,000 people. Moore was seen encouraging the Magpie Army to make some noise after the win.

Flash floods have killed at least 14 people in Greece, Turkey and Bulgaria.

The deadly storms caused landslides, destroyed roads and infrastructure and swept cars away.

Protesters interrupt US Open

Climate protesters interrupted the semi-final between Coco Gauff and Karolina Muchova by glueing their feet to the floor in the stands.

The crowd chanted for the protesters to be kicked out and they were eventually escorted away.

Wombat zoomies

This week, an old video of Boo the wombat doing zoomies resurfaced when the CSIRO shared it to mark Wombat Wednesday.

The very speedy and energetic Boo lives at the Caversham Wildlife Park and is proof that dogs aren’t the only ones who get the zoomies.

Chocolate bar

Pastry chef Amaury Guichon really showed off his skills this week when he unveiled a bar made entirely out of chocolate.

Not only did he make a sweet bar, but also bar stools and all the tools one would need to make a drink.

Hogwarts Express takes off

The scenes at London’s King’s Cross Station on September 1 were absolutely wild, as Harry Potter fans gathered to see off the Hogwarts Express.

Smart gecko tricks sensor

A very smart gecko has figured out how to trip the sensor on a water fountain to quench its thirst.
