Pop megastar Beyonce has been rescued after an alarming technical fail left her stranded high in the air near the end of her concert in Houston.

The star soared above her delighted audience at the Texas city’s NRG Stadium on Saturday night (local time) performing her song 16 Carriages while riding in a suspected red Cadillac.

But a malfunction left her stuck, as the car stalled and then started to lean.

In footage circulating online, Beyonce can be heard calmly repeating the word “stop”.

The car remained in the air for about a minute, before crew from the singer’s Cowboy Carter tour slowly lowered it to floor level in a spot surrounded by fans. Beyonce was then able to get out.

There was a brief delay before she returned to the main stage.

“Thank y’all for your patience. I wanna thank y’all for loving me. If ever I fall, I know y’all will catch me,” Beyonce told her screaming fans, according to the Houston Chronicle.

She then resumed the show, completing her performance of 16 Carriages, and finished the night with Amen.

Beyonce’s company, Parkwood Entertainment, later released a statement about the mid-concert fail.

“Tonight in Houston, at NRG stadium, a technical mishap caused the flying car, a prop Beyoncé uses to circle the stadium, and see her fans up close, to tilt,” it said.

“She was quickly lowered and no one was injured. The show continued without incident.”

Beyonce’s road crew then had to make sure the faulty Cadillac was repaired in time for a follow-up concert at the same venue on Sunday night. The back-to-back Houston shows are reportedly homecoming performances for the Texas-born superstar.

Her Cowboy Carter tour kicked off in Los Angeles in April. It was followed by shows in France, before her return to the US for dates in Maryland,d Georgia and Nevada, as well as Texas.

Beyonce – who has not toured Australia since 2013 – is yet to announce any plans to bring the show down under.
