Broken Axl turns it on for rapturous AC/DC fans

Axl Rose has made his debut with legendary Aussie rock band AC/DC, performing from a chair in Lisbon.

The Guns N’ Roses frontman, who stepped up to the microphone when AC/DC lead singer Brian Johnson was forced from duty due to ill health, treated the rapturous crowd to renditions of songs including Back in Black and Thunderstruck.

Rose, who sang from the chair because of a broken foot, introduced himself to the crowd in simple fashion.

“Nice to meet you!” the 54-year-old yelled as he took to the stage wearing his long-favoured bandana and hat.

Johnson was advised to quit or risk total hearing loss, opening the door for Rose to step up to complete the band’s Rock or Bust world tour.

Saturday’s gig in Lisbon was the start of a 12-date, five-week run through Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Switzerland, England and Denmark.

Johnson had joined the band in 1980 after singer Bon Scott died following a night of heavy drinking.
