The Rubens take out Triple J’s Hottest 100
Sydney rockers The Rubens have taken out top spot in Triple J’s Hottest 100 with their contagious hit Hoops.
The Menangle five-piece band edged out Grammy Award-winning American rapper Kendrick Lamar’s King Kunta to win the annual countdown on Tuesday.
Electronic anthem Lean On by Major Lazer and DJ Snake rounded out the top three in the national youth radio network’s 23rd annual Australia Day music poll.

It’s the first time The Rubens have been crowned kings of the countdown, which received more than two million votes from 172 countries.
Australian artists took out more than half of the top 100 songs, with Melbourne singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett and Perth juggernauts Tame Impala both getting four tracks into the poll.
