One very cool Cat
The enigmatic Chan Marshall, aka Cat Power, makes another of her regular and welcome visits to Australia in early 2014. Seen here in 2013 with musicians in tow, this tour sees Marshall in solo mode, alternating on piano and guitar.
The singer, with two albums of covers and five albums of originals at her disposal, has a plethora of captivating songs to draw upon; everything from the electronic textures of her latest acclaimed album Sun, to the blues/soul inflected grooves of The Greatest, and her notably inventive re-readings of songs by The Rolling Stones, Lou Reed, Bob Dylan and several other luminaries (heard on The Covers Record).
Lucky Sydney folk have the opportunity to see her as part of Sydney Festival’s tribute to the late Alex Chilton, as various musicians assemble to play the fabled Sister Lovers album by his band Big Star.
Joining Marshall for several shows (see below) is Dirty Three guitarist and sometime collaborator Mick Turner, playing tracks from his new solo album Don’t Tell the Driver.
