· Spotify hits…but how much do artists get paid?

Popular digital music service Spotify yesterday announced their list of the top streamed songs, artists and albums of the year. In 2013, an astounding 4.5 billion hours – almost 50,000 years – of music was streamed on Spotify globally.

Rap duo Macklemore and Ryan Lewis won the moniker of most streamed artist globally, also taking the top spot of most streamed song for their hit Can’t Hold Us and topping the list for most streamed album for The Heist. Lorde was the most streamed female artist in Australia and Rihanna was the most streamed female artist globally for the second year running, followed by Lana Del Rey and Pink.
