James Van Der Beek’s final movie has been released just a week after his death, with his fans expressing their emotion at seeing the actor on screen.
Van Der Beek took on acting roles to support his large family while he was battling stage three colorectal disease.
The Dawson’s Creek star passed away last week, aged 48, after a brave fight, leaving his family struggling financially.
The trailer for an upcoming movie, The Gates, was released this week , with Van Der Beek playing the role of a deranged church pastor.

The plot centres on three friends who witness a murder while driving through a gated community.
They find themselves being pursued by a church pastor, Van Der Beek.
“We were just trying to pass through, and we saw something, and now this psycho is after us,” says actor Mason Gooding’s character in the trailer.
In one scene, the villainous Van Der Beek states: “I have been called upon to lead this community, and those boys seek to destroy us.
“You’ve seen what happens when people get in my way.”
The movie, directed by John Burr, is scheduled for a US release on March 13.
Van Der Beek’s costars are Mason Gooding, Algee Smith, Keith Powers and Brad Leland.
The Gates was his last movie but Van Der Beek is also due to appear in the Legally Blonde prequel series, Elle, on Prime Video.
Van Der Beek plays a high school dean in the series airing in July.

His widow Kimberly recently told People that the couple had renewed their wedding vows before his death.
“We decided two days beforehand and our friends got us new rings, filled our bedroom with flowers and candles and we renewed our vows from bed,” she said.
“[It was] simple and beautiful and moving.”
Van Der Beek’s family thanked fans for their recent show of support after the Dawson’s Creek star died.
A GoFundMe page set up for his wife and six children received more than $US2.4 million ($3.4 million).
“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for showing up for James and his beautiful family,” a statement posted on the fundraising page says.
“Your kindness has meant more than we can put into words. In the middle of deep grief, your support has been a light.
“It reminds us that love is real, that community is strong, and that James’s spirit continues to bring people together.”
The page had said his family faced significant financial strain as his medical costs and cancer battle had left them broke.
“Throughout his illness, the family faced not only emotional challenges but also significant financial strain as they did everything possible to support James and provide for his care,” it said.
“In the wake of this loss, Kimberly and the children are facing an uncertain future. The costs of James’s medical care and the extended fight against cancer have left the family out of funds.”
The fundraising appeal said Van Der Beek’s family was working hard to stay in their home and ensure the children could continue their education and maintain some stability.
“Your generosity will help cover essential living expenses, pay bills, and support the children’s education,” it said.
“Every donation, no matter the size, will help Kimberly and her family find hope and security as they rebuild their lives. Thank you for considering a gift to support them.”
