Star Wars fans have been given a glimpse into the younger years of beloved franchise hero Han Solo, with the longest trailer for this year’s Solo: An Origins Story arriving online on Monday.

The Disney-produced flick stars up-and-comer Alden Ehrenreich, 28, as the younger iteration of Harrison Ford’s iconic smuggler-turned-saviour, who was killed off in 2015’s The Force Awakens.

For those who are confused, it’s the second standalone film from Disney and Lucasfilm following 2016’s Rogue One. The movies operate as prequels to The Force Awakens and 2017’s The Last Jedi.

The film was directed by Ron Howard, who stepped in after original directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were ousted with only weeks of filming left, reportedly over creative differences with the producers.

Solo boasts a cast of popular character actors like Woody Harrelson and Paul Bettany, plus stars of the small screen like comedian/rapper Donald Glover (Atlanta, Community) and Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke.

The movie will have its star-studded premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in early May and will arrive in Australian cinemas on May 24 this year.
