This is who we think should play a young Han Solo
In case the forthcoming Force Awakens film wasn’t enough, Star Wars fans have even more to look forward to with the announcement of a Han Solo spin-off movie for 2018 release.
• ‘The Age of Adaline’ is the prettiest film of the year
• Han Solo Star Wars spinoff movie in the works
• The 28 best Star Wars scenes from all six films
The movie, to be directed by the men behind 21 Jump Street and The Lego Movie, will explain how Solo became the thieving scoundrel Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi met at Mos Eisley.
Unfortunately, at 72 years of age, Harrison Ford is no longer up for the job, but getting his likeness right is imperative.
So who should fill Ford’s beloved boots? Here are our top picks:
Anthony Ingruber
If you want a freaky Ford doppelgänger, Anthony Ingruber is your man. The young actor got his start doing impressions of Ford on YouTube, where he was picked up by a Hollywood casting director and cast as a young Ford in this year’s Age of Adaline alongside Blake Lively.
He even has the voice down pat and did his audition way back in 2008 in this YouTube clip:
Liam Hemsworth
Don’t lie – you’d be pretty chuffed if the young Han Solo was an Aussie. Hemsworth has rugged good looks that are reminiscent of a young Ford and his turn in the Hunger Games movies would reel the younger audience in, along with the original fans.
Justin Bieber
Hear us out. Bieber certainly shares a lot with the Star Wars hero: they both have an air of bravado, youthful energy and mischief about them. They’ve both got roguish good looks. And they’ve both done some things they probably regret.
It would be a controversial choice, but Bieber has at least half as much acting talent as he does musical chops, he just might pull it off.
Shia LaBeouf
LaBeouf has worked with Ford before on Indiana Jones in the 2008 installment, so he knows the ins and outs of Ford’s acting style. He’s also a method actor who would probably start hanging out with really hairy friends and wearing a black vest day in, day out before filming started (which would make for excellent paparazzi photos).
At the end of the day though, LaBeouf is a talented, albeit slightly intense, actor who would bring the right amount of jaunty confidence to the role.
Ansel Elgort
The actor and DJ has the cheeky charm necessary to carry on Ford’s legacy and the appropriate action movie pedigree (he stars in all three Divergent films). In a happy coincidence, his stage name is Ansolo. It’s fate.
