Avengers stronghold at top of Aussie box office

The Avengers are hanging on to top spot at the Australian box office with superhero strength.

After enjoying the third-best opening weekend ever Down Under, Avengers: Age Of Ultron has managed to hold strong in top spot, pulling in over $7 million in its second week of release, according to the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia.

Unfriended: the feature film made on a computer screen

Unfriended, a low-budget horror movie that plays out almost entirely on the computer screen, has stolen second spot and made just over $1 million from preview screenings.

Five weeks after its release, Fast and Furious 7 has dropped to third but has raked in more than $41 million in Australia. Avengers still has a way to go to match it, with $28 million in takings from the Aussie box office.

Cinderella has dropped a place to fourth while Blake Lively’s The Age Of Adaline climbs one spot into fifth.

Comedy Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 drops two spots to No.6, while the latest from The Notebook creator, Nicholas Sparks, The Longest Ride clings to No.7.

Fox’s animation, Home, has spent an impressive seven weeks in the top 10 but drops three places this week to eighth.

The Naomi Watts/Ben Stiller film, While We’re Young, sits ninth for a second week while Dustin Hoffman’s Boychoir scrapes into the top 10 in its second week.
