Australian actor Bill Kerr has died, aged 92.

The South Africa-born TV and radio star passed away on Friday while watching television at his home in Perth.

The cause of death has not been released.

Kerr’s first major film role was in Harmony Row in 1933 but he did not find fame until he moved to the UK and became a sidekick on BBC radio show Hancock’s Half Hour alongside comedy icon Tony Hancock in the 1950s.

He won recurring parts in British soap opera Compact in 1965 and Doctor Who in 1967, and he appeared in a host of films including The Dam Busters, Gallipoli and the 2003 version of Peter Pan.

Kerr also performed in musicals, including a role as The Devil in the first West End production of Damn Yankees in 1957.
