Golfing great Greg Norman has slammed the airline he once proudly promoted as an ambassador, saying it is no longer a great travel experience.

US-based Norman launched a scathing tirade after his long-haul Qantas flight from Sydney to Dallas was delayed by three hours.

The 71-year-old posted an angry rant to social media about the “never-on-time” Australian national carrier.

He claimed that as well as the three-hour departure delay, he had to wait another hour after arrival to collect his luggage.

“I have always tried to support my national airline,” posted Norman, who was a golf champion in the 1980s and 1990s.

“Sadly their reputation of the ‘never on-time’ airline (or the ones I am on — this time Syd — Dallas circa 3 hrs late departing), plus an hour to get one bag in Dallas now has me looking elsewhere.”

Norman was reportedly in Australia to go to the NRL grand final in Sydney. He flew from Sydney to Dallas on a Qantas A380 at the weekend.

The ‘Shark’ suggested he would have to change his loyalties to another airline.

“Maybe Emirates — longer but reliable, Wi-Fi, comfort caring,” he said.

“Too bad, as Qantas was once one of the top three in the world for a great travel experience. Alas no more.”

While praising the ground crew, Norman said the airline company was putting profits before passengers.

“Profits before customer caring, reputation and service! And not to have Wi-Fi in this day and age with the cost/ticket, #insane #outdated,” he declared.

“Qantas admin — get to work and bring back the pride in ‘The Spirit of Australia’ and be a world leader in your industry again. #alottodo.”

Qantas confirmed a flight delay on Norman’s route.

“Unfortunately, our flight from Sydney to Dallas Fort Worth on Saturday was delayed departing Sydney while our engineers fixed a fuelling issue,” a spokesperson said.

The Qantas website says Wi-Fi is available on selected aircraft.

Norman was a Qantas ambassador for decades, dating back to the late 1970s, appearing in its commercials and promoting the Qantas Golf Club.

His Instagram rant drew support from his followers in the comments.

“It’s sad that the benchmark of flying round the world is no longer Qantas…. But then to have an icon like the Great White Shark aka Mr Norman call it out is not good at all,” said one follower.

Traveller Craig Garrod wrote: “I’ve always flown @qantas but after flying @emirates I’m never looking back sadly.”
