Actor Tom Selleck has revealed the low-key way he marked his 80th birthday this week, including with a stop at McDonald’s.

The star marked the milestone on Wednesday (US time) – the same day he was spotted at one of the fast-food chain’s outlets in Thousand Oaks, California.

Selleck, best known for his iconic role in TV’s Magnum, PI, was photographed picking up lunch from the drive-through and eating it in his truck in north-western Los Angeles.

The unassuming meal out came after Selleck’s candid admissions about his unsentimental view of birthdays.

“I’ll probably have dinner with maybe my brother and my sister and [my wife] Jillie [Mack], just go out to dinner, kind of be quiet and not make a big deal of it,” he told Parade in December about his then-upcoming 80th.

Selleck, who found fame playing TV’s private investigator Thomas Magnum, has enjoyed decades of success in both television and film. But despite his high-flying career, he has a relatively private life, preferring low-key celebrations on birthdays.

In 2024, his beloved series Blue Bloods concluded after 14 seasons.

“I’m kind of frustrated. During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for Blue Bloods, but about it still being wildly successful,” he told TV Insider of the show’s demise.

Selleck also lamented the series had been “taken for granted” due to its consistent performance, ranking sixth among all TV shows in total viewers in 2023 to 2024.

Selleck, who lives in California with his family, has also been busy recently writing his autobiography.

“I can’t think in front of a keyboard,” he told Town and Country of the book – titled You Never Know – which was handwritten before publication.

You Never Know was released in May last year.
