Rock legend Jon Bon Jovi is being credited with saving a woman’s life after coming to her aid while she was perched on the ledge of a bridge in Tennessee.

Nashville Police say Bon Jovi and a video production assistant persuaded the woman to come back over the railing to safety.

Police say the encounter happened on the Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge, which spans the Cumberland River.

Local newspaper The Tennessean reported that 62-year-old Bon Jovi was filming a music video on the bridge, which had remained open to the public.

The Metro Nashville Police Department posted footage of the incident, apparently captured on CCTV, to YouTube on Wednesday (US time) but it was later removed.

“A shout out to Jon Bon Jovi and his team for helping a woman on the Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge [on] Tuesday night,” the police department said.

“Bon Jovi helped persuade her to come off the ledge over the Cumberland River to safety.”

The video shows Bon Jovi’s assistant talking to the woman. The Grammy-winning rock frontman also approaches her slowly. He can be seen waving to the woman as he joins the conversation.

Eventually the woman turned around to face the pair, and they helped her over the railing to safety. Bon Jovi continued to talk to the woman and hugged her.

“It takes all of us to help keep each other safe,” Nashville Police Chief John Drake said on Wednesday.

A spokesperson for the local police told CNN that the woman, whose name has not been released, had been taken to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation.

Representatives for Bon Jovi did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
