Rocker Jimmy Barnes has released an upbeat update on his health, as he recovers from his latest round of surgery.

“Day five, post-hip op, I’m on crutches for hallway walks and exercises,” he wrote in an update on Facebook on Thursday.

“I have to thank everyone doing their best to get me back on my feet again. That includes all of you cheering me on.”

The post to his 812,000 Facebook fans and 237,000 more on Instagram was accompanied with a video of Barnes walking down a hallway in his Sydney hospital.

It came two weeks after his latest health setback – sparked by a twinge in his hip while in New Zealand that sent him into hospital and led to the cancellation of solo shows across August and September.

“By late last night the pain was unbearable so I went off to hospital,” he posted to Instagram earlier in August.

“The doctors have recommended a remedial medical procedure ASAP followed by some physio to address the issue.

“These doctors don’t muck around! Providing all goes to plan, I’m expected to make a full recovery in six weeks.”

The Working Class Man singer has posted numerous updates since, often photos from his hospital bed surrounded by his family.

“I turned a corner today,” Barnes wrote on two photos earlier this week – one of him smiling behind the keys of a laptop and the other outside with wife Jane.

“Making steady progress and doing my best not to rush anything. Felt great to get outside for some good old Darlinghurst air. Thankful my Jane is always by my side.”

Thursday’s video was the first to show him back on his feet.

It followed another health emergency for the Australian music legend last December, when he had urgent open-heart surgery to fight the spread of an aggressive bacterial infection.

He spent weeks in hospital after that, and had a prolonged recovery, before finally returning to the stage at Bluesfest in March.

“It’s good to be here,” he said told the adoring crowd.

“It’s good to be f—ing anywhere.”

This month’s unexpected hip surgery led to the cancellation of another string of shows. Barnes told ticket-holders they’d be contacted once plans were updated.

“As you know, I hate to let anyone down, but I’m also never going to compromise the quality of my gigs,” he said in announcing his hip surgery.

“I apologise for the inconvenience this will cause everyone – I HATE moving shows! – but thank you for understanding.”

Barnes also cancelled his summer tour in 2022 to have urgent back and hip surgery for severe pain.
