Popstar Justin Timberlake has had his driving privileges revoked in the latest court hearing over his drink driving arrest in the prestigious Hamptons on Long Island in June.
Timberlake, wearing a black shirt, appeared virtually from Belgium while on his world tour and pleaded not guilty to a revised misdemeanor charge of driving drunk, reports PEOPLE.
During the hearing, the singer’s lawyer Edward Burke Jr was rebuked for public comments which the judge said could appear like an attempt to “poison” the case before it begins.
Sag Harbor Village Justice Carl Irace threatened a gag order or said he could request Timberlake appear in person which would force him to return from his Forget Tomorrow World Tour, reports PEOPLE.
Meanwhile, Burke withdrew his motion which was lodged last week to have the case dismissed.
Judge Irace suspended the singer’s driving privileges in the state of New York.
In previous comments following the last court hearing, Burke thad released a statement claiming Timberlake “was not intoxicated and should not have been arrested for DWI”.
He also claimed that police “made a number of very significant errors in this case”.
The SexyBack singer was stopped by police in June after allegedly swerving his 2025 BMW to the wrong side of the road and failing to stop at a stop sign in the Hamptons on Long Island.
Timberlake, 43, reportedly refused a breathalyser three times, but then allegedly failed the standard sobriety test which includes walking in a straight line.
He was arrested and held in custody before facing Sag Harbour Village Justice Court in handcuffs the following morning.
According to the paperwork, the arresting officer noticed that Timberlake’s eyes were “bloodshot and glassy, a strong odour of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath, he was unable to divide attention, he had slowed speech, he was unsteady afoot, and he performed poorly on all standardised field sobriety tests”.
After being taken to a police station, the former NSYNC singer had the report was read aloud to him. He responded: “No, I’m not doing a chemical test.”
After being read the report two more times, Timberlake said: “I refuse.”
Since then, it has emerged the Cry Me A River singer claimed to have consumed just “one martini” before following his friends home in his car.
Page Six is also reporting that the officer who arrested Timberlake did not recognise the 10-time Grammy winner.
An insider told the paper that the officer “was so young that he didn’t even know” who Timberlake was.
“Justin said under his breath, ‘This is going to ruin the tour’,” a second source has also claimed to Page Six.
The cop replied, ‘What tour?’ Justin said, ‘The world tour’.”
Timberlake has been charged with one count of driving while intoxicated. He’s also received two citations – one for running a stop sign and another for failure to remain in his lane.
Timberlake was held overnight for arraignment and later released on his own recognisance.
His driver’s licence will be suspended in the state of New York.
He is due back in court on July 26.
Ahead of that, the singer has two concerts in Chicago on June 21 and 22, and two more next week at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
He is also scheduled to perform a concert in Poland on the same day as his next court date.
