Euphoria star Angus Cloud has died aged 25
Angus Cloud, the American actor who played drug dealer Fezco “Fez” O’Neill in the HBO series Euphoria, has died aged 25.
Cloud’s publicist, Cait Bailey, said he died on Monday (US time) at his family home in Oakland, California.
No cause of death was given. But Oakland police have confirmed they were called to the family home, where the actor was pronounced dead.
In a statement, Cloud’s family said goodbye to “an artist, a friend, a brother and a son”.
“Last week he buried his father and intensely struggled with this loss. The only comfort we have is knowing Angus is now reunited with his dad, who was his best friend,” they said.
“Angus was open about his battle with mental health and we hope that his passing can be a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not fight this on their own in silence.”
“We hope the world remembers him for his humour, laughter and love for everyone.”
Cloud and his family had travelled to Ireland only last week to bury his father.
“Miss u breh,” he wrote in a post of a photograph of his smiling father on social media two weeks ago.
Details about Cloud’s father and how he died have not been revealed.
Cloud had not acted before he was cast in Euphoria. He was walking down the street in New York when casting director Jennifer Venditti noticed him.
Series creator Sam Levinson made him the co-star of the series alongside Zendaya for its first two seasons.
Levison was among the first to pay tribute to Cloud after news of his death emerged.
“There was no one quite like Angus. He was too special, too talented and way too young to leave us so soon,” wrote Levinson.
“He also struggled, like many of us, with addiction and depression. I hope he knew how many hearts he touched. I loved him. I always will. Rest in peace and God bless his family.”
Javon Walton, who played Cloud’s on-screen little brother, shared a post to Instagram remembering his co-star.
“Rest easy brother,” he wrote.
The official Euphoria account also posted on X (formerly Twitter) in memory of Cloud.
“He was immensely talented and a beloved part of the HBO and Euphoria family,” it wrote.
Another co-star, Storm Reid, who plays Gia Bennett, posted a tribute to Cloud on her Instagram story. She shared a clip of a laughter-filled scene between Cloud and Maude Apatow from the series.
“The tears just won’t stop,” Reid wrote.
Cloud has spoken of hour he initially thought it was a scam when he was approached on the streets of Brooklyn about Euphoria.
“Then they brought me back in and they showed me the role, and it made more sense. Because in my mind I was like, they stopped me because I look like I could be a star? Then I’m like, no, it’s because I look like I could be a drug dealer,” he told publication ID earlier this year.
When the HBO series took off, Cloud said he was surprised by its own success.
“The difference between me and everyone else who’s famous it’s that they were trying to go get famous, for the most part,” he said.
“They were working hard, and they were like, ‘I’m going to make it to the top’. For me, it was just like too good of an opportunity to say no to. I had no idea it would go this far.”
He recently completed shooting Freaky Tales, a film from Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, and had been named for an upcoming Universal monster movie.
