Brad Pitt called a “petulant child” by Angelina Jolie’s lawyers
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s divorce has just got a whole lot messier, thanks to a French vineyard the couple purchased.
In 2008, the once-formidable power couple purchased a controlling interest in Château Miraval in France.
Pitt and Jolie married at the estate in 2014 and, along with their children, the family holidayed there throughout their relationship.
Then Jolie filed for divorce in 2016, and a judge declared her and Pitt single in 2019.
In 2021, Jolie sold her interest in the vineyard to the Stoli Group.
It was previously reported by People that, in documents from February 2022, Pitt alleged that Jolie made the sale despite their agreement that neither would do so without the other’s approval.
However, now the grapes have soured even more with fresh court documents from Jolie’s camp calling Pitt a “petulant child” amid further sour grapes over the French property.
Brad Pitt is “not a winemaker”
According to Page Six, last week, lawyers for Nouvel, the holding company Jolie used to carry her shares in the estate, filed a cross-complaint.
It was in response to claims from Pitt’s lawyers, which alleged Jolie’s decisions to sell her part of the business threatened to ruin everything he had put into the vineyard, Page Six reported.
Jolie’s lawyers did not hold back, pouring cold water on the image Pitt has tried to create in recent years that he is something of a winemaker.
“Pitt is an actor, not a winemaker,” the court documents say, according to Page Six.
“He deals in illusions, not dirt and grapes.”
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were together for 12 years.
The documents also claim that while Pitt “allegedly ‘built’ the business, he filmed and appeared in dozens of movies, not to mention making countless promotional appearances, jetting-setting [sic] around the world for movie premieres, and attending Hollywood parties”.
According to People, the legal documents then go on to call Pitt a “petulant child” for not treating Nouvel as an equal partner in the business.
“Incensed that Jolie sold Nouvel to Stoli rather than him, Pitt has acted like a petulant child, refusing to treat Nouvel as an equal partner in the business,” the filing reportedly says.
According to Fox News, Nouvel also claimed Pitt was responsible for a “vindictive campaign” that started after Jolie initiated the divorce, to “loot” the business.
The documents also claim Pitt was “wasting” the company’s assets on renovation projects at the French property.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s divorce
The divorce of these two high-powered actors has been anything but sweet.
In 2022, allegations emerged that Pitt had been violent with Jolie and some of their children.
Jolie alleged that, on a 2016 flight, Pitt grabbed her by the head and shook her, and then choked one of their children and struck another when they tried to defend her. The descriptions of abuse on the private flight came in a cross-complaint Jolie filed in the couple’s dispute over the French home and winery.
At the time, representatives for Pitt said the allegations were “completely untrue”.
“[Jolie’s] story continues to evolve each time she tells it with new, unsubstantiated claims. Brad has accepted responsibility for what he did but will not for things he didn’t do. These new allegations are completely untrue,” a statement provided to CNN said.
In 2021, Jolie claimed she feared for her safety when she was Pitt.
