Barnaby Joyce lays bare his new domestic life in bizarre tweets

Kicking back at home watching the AFL grand final over the weekend, Barnaby Joyce decided to give the world an insider’s look at his new domestic life.
A barefoot reclining Mr Joyce snapped a number of photos of the living room of the home he and partner Vikki Campion share with son Sebastian, then posted them to Twitter.
The last time he and Ms Campion showcased their son and private life, it cost Seven’s Sunday Night a reported $150,000. The latest glimpses were free.
“This our nation now watching one of the tightest games, and I am a northerner,” posted the former deputy PM in one, seemingly apropos of nothing.
“That doesn’t even make sense,” noted one user, while another said simply of the cryptic tweet, “You have lost me now”.
The random wording of the tweets wasn’t what surprised a former Canberra political journalist, who recalled Mr Joyce’s calling in June for a “tort of privacy” to protect people like Ms Campion and Sebastian from public scrutiny and display.
“You can’t ask for privacy when you did this,” the source told The New Daily.
“If Sunday Night wasn’t enough, then he has opened the floodgates. Nothing’s off limits now.”

While Mr Joyce didn’t give away whether he was supporting West Coast or Collingwood on the day, what he did reveal was the unpretentious decorating approach he and Ms Campion have gone for in their starter home.
Among design features: piles of folded clothes, a montage of photos casually tacked to one wall behind the mid-size TV, one landscape painting and books stacked ad hoc in a shelf.
There was also a stack of baby gear (rocker, walker, play gym) and little Sebastian himself, his mother parked in front of him taking a close up of his six-month-old face.
Some of Mr Joyce’s 88,000-plus followers were unimpressed with different aspects of the one-time Nationals leader’s style. “The place looks rough,” one said.
Another was more focused on Mr Joyce’s personal hygiene: “Your toe nails need clipping”.
Undeterred, Mr Joyce, 51, kept tweeting. A second photo showed Sebastian out of his walker and being cuddled by Ms Campion, who was still on the floor, and Mr Joyce still minus his RM Williams boots.
“The East just lost,” he tweeted, reducing the grand final result to a bicoastal rivalry.

Again, users were less interested in Mr Joyce’s accurate reporting of the Eagles’ victory than his home set up, with a few wondering if a couple of coldies may have fuelled his sudden desire to share his private life.
“Please use your drinking money for furniture,” one told Mr Joyce, who last spoke about his family during a publicity tour for his book Weatherboard and Iron.
“Good God, that looks like a student house,” said another, while a third suggested, “Hire a housekeeper”.
Far from outsourcing any domestic duties, Mr Joyce told The New Daily in August he revels in the responsibility of doing his share.
Starting a second family – he and his ex-wife Natalie Joyce had four daughters during their 24-year marriage – “You know the pressures your partner is under,” Mr Joyce said.
“I get a lot of joy out of coming home and cooking dinner. It doesn’t worry me to bloody clean the house and help.”
Before he fires up the oven, he checks in with Ms Campion about what she fancies, he said.
“If it’s fish, it’s fish. If it’s pasta, it’s pasta. There’s heaps of vegetables. Vik is a really good cook as well, but it helps me switch off.
“I turn on the stove and stare out the window and my head goes to a different place. That’s how I relax.”
