Selena Gomez has become the fastest user to get one million likes with an Instagram photo.

And it’s not a bells-and-whistles hyper produced image, but a casual, slightly blurry shot of the singer looking happy.

Gomez celebrated turning 26 last week with an Italian-themed birthday party on a yacht. On Monday, she posted to Instagram a series of seven images from the bash, kicking off the gallery with a photo of herself in an off-the-shoulder boho dress and bedazzled crucifix.

Less than 13 minutes later, the photo had one million likes on the social media platform, according to pop-culture tracking Twitter account Pop Crave.

“Another year down … I love you guys like crazy!” she wrote to her 139 million followers.

They loved her right back. One day after it was posted, the photo had over 8.6 million likes.

The feat smashed the previous Instagram million likes record held by Beyonce, according to Pop Crave.

While it’s not quite clear which of Beyonce’s posts are the heavy lifters, according to Elle, it comes down to two candidates.

Number one is Beyonce’s famous February 2017 pregnancy reveal which Billboard reported scored 6.4 million likes in two hours.

The artistic pregnancy announcement, with its elaborate use of florals and the weird symbolism of a bridal veil, has now levelled out at over 11.2 million likes.

The second frontrunner is the elaborately-staged reveal of twins Rumi and Sir Carter which chalked up 7.8 million in 12 hours a year ago.

The photo of the twins’ debut a month after their birth – which gave new mothers who settle for poorly-lit hospital room photos complete with rumpled pyjamas and sobbing subjects something to think about – is holding steady at over 10.3 million likes.

That means Gomez still has something to aim at, but the former Disney Channel star is unlikely to be feeling too competitive towards Beyonce, 36

She’s already the official queen of Instagram, a title she’s held since becoming the social media platform’s most-followed user in 2016.

But she was dethroned in one category on Wednesday when the Hopper HQ 2018 Instagram Rich List was revealed.

The research by the London-based software company and social media planner showcases the staggering potential stars have for making serious money from social posts.

Its annual list is reportedly curated based on Hopper HQ’s own data plus public data on the value of a post. That depends on how much brands pay and what a post is worth in terms of engagement, reach and audience, said Harpers Bazaar.

Claiming the crown from Gomez – who was pushed into second spot – is makeup maven Kylie Jenner, 20.

It’s the second time Jenner has topped a rich list this month: on July 11 Forbes named her the youngest person on its annual list of the world’s richest self-made women.

According to the Instagram Rich List, she can earn up to $US1 million ($1.35 million) with a single post.

Gomez, who has the potential to earn $US800,000 ($1.08 million) a post, put her skills to the test in a July 18 post tagged as a paid partnership with Puma.

Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo, 33, was third with $US750,000, Jenner’s half-sister Kim Kardashian West, 37, came in in fourth with an estimated invoicing price of $US720,000 and Beyonce – of course – rounded out the top five with $US700,000.
