Meghan Markle overwhelmed by raucous London crowds

Meghan Markle had her first taste of the frenzy that her impending royal wedding to Prince Harry has sparked in Britain when she took to the streets of London on her second official engagement with her fiancèe.

Harry and Meghan were met by excited crowds Wednesday morning (AEDT) when they visited Brixton radio station Reprezent, a training program established to combat youth crime

Meghan appeared overwhelmed by the screaming crowds at one point, soon after she arrived holding hands with Harry.

She later covered her hand over her mouth when a simple wave got a raucous reaction from the waiting royal fans.

Meghan rugged up against the winter weather in a camel-coloured Smythe Brando coat and matching scarf over a black bell sleeve sweater and flared Burberry black pants.

Harry and Meghan were whisked inside Pop Brixton, a community project that houses independent local businesses, start-ups, new restaurants and the not-for-profit station in shipping containers.

The US actress chatted, joked and even hugged young presenters at the radio station as she and Harry learned more about the not-for-profit broadcaster’s work training presenters, producers and station managers.

Harry even exchanged an extravagant fist bump with one of the DJs.

Harry clearly enjoyed the experience of having his bride-to-be by his side and at one point jokingly attempted to sidestep a question about his friend, former US president Barack Obama, saying “she answers the questions”.

Reprezent FM founder Shane Carey, who hosted the visit, said of Meghan: “From what I saw the young people really like her.

“She was very natural, she was very engaging and very humorous, she got the young people’s humour and interacted with them a lot.”

The couple surprised the crowd outside with a brief meet-and-greet as they left the radio station.

One royals fan, who gave her name only as Tracey, said she was was thrilled when Meghan accepted her bouquet of flowers.

“She said ‘hello’ to everyone,” Tracey was quoted as saying by People magazine.

“I thought she’d just take the flowers and go, but she asked me my name,” she said.

Harry and Meghan will marry at Windsor Castle in May, a month after the expected birth of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s third child.

Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle, will give his daughter away at the wedding, the bride-to-be’s half sister Samatha Markle told US media this week.

There had been speculation about whether Mr Markle would be invited to perform the traditional role of the bride’s fathe on May 19 at Windsor Castle’s St George’s Chapel.

But during a television interview Monday, when asked by broadcaster Matthew Wright if her father would be attending the wedding, Samantha Markle replied: “yes he is, God forbid unless a plane crashes through his roof, he’ll be there one way or the other.”
