Adele hints at retirement in emotional farewell to her fans

Two years after saying Hello to her fans with the release of her Grammy-winning album, 25, Adele has said goodbye with a heartfelt letter on the eve of the end of her world tour.

Those attending the first of her final four London shows at Wembley Stadium found a handwritten note from the star in their programs announcing she was done with life on the road.

“So this is it. After 15 months on the road and 18 months of [the album] 25, we are at the end,” the 29-year-old singer wrote.

“Touring is a peculiar thing, it doesn’t suit me particularly well. I’m a real homebody and I get so much joy in the small things. Plus I’m dramatic and have a terrible history of touring. Until now that is!”

Adele has spoken at length about her battle with severe stage fright, but seems to have found a way of coping during her 123-show worldwide tour, which brought her to Australia in February.

“I only ever did this tour for you and to hopefully have an impact on you the way that some of my favourite artists have had [an impact] on me live,” she wrote to her fans.

“And I wanted my final shows to be in London because I don’t know if I’ll ever tour again, and so I want my last time to be at home.

“Thank you for coming, for all of your ridiculous love and kindness. I will remember all of this for the rest of my life. Love you. Goodnight for now.”

When she’s not travelling the world for work, the private star prefers a low-key life at her home in West Sussex with her husband, Simon Konecki, and their four-year-old son, Angelo.

During the stadium tour, it was revealed she was wheeled onto the stage in an unassuming box in an effort to avoid fan attention.

There are still tickets available for Adele’s final Wembley Stadium shows, starting at £60 ($A100) a pop.

The Australian leg of her tour broke attendance records, with more than 600,000 people buying tickets to her eight concerts Down Under.
