Music stars Calvin Harris and Zayn Malik have engaged in one of the most high profile Twitter wars ever.

The social media back-and-forth began when the former One Direction man Malik, 22, re-tweeted a post slamming Swift’s refusal to make her music available on Spotify.

Scotsman Harris, 31, then took issue with the re-tweet and defended his girlfriend, sparking the public disagreement.

The initial re-tweet compared Miley Cyrus’ position on streaming to Taylor Swift’s. Cyrus has previously stated she is happy to let her music be heard for free.

While Swift has been critical of the rates Spotify pays for use of music, Malik’s re-tweet pointed out “the difference (in position) is astounding’.

Harris responded: “You’ve made your money? Cool… f*** the 99% of musicians who depend on these services to survive, right? Yeah f*** em.”

“If you don’t get what it means when a successful artist uses their celebrity to benefit every other musician and songwriter in the industry… then stay out of my f***ing mentions.”

Malik hit back: “Ha you just made an absolute fool of yourself mate,” saying his retweet was a general statement, not a strike to Swift.

“You clearly don’t understand what I just said either … So I suggest you calm your knickers before them dentures fall out.”

Many of the tweets have been deleted since the feud caught the world’s attention.

The Daily Mail reported it ended with Malik replying to Harris: “Oh and I write my own s*** d***head.”
