A spokesperson for blockbuster movie Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales has struck down reports Johnny Depp stormed off the set of the movie in a last-ditch attempt to save his relationship with wife Amber Heard.

Sources from the Gold Coast set of the film told The Gold Coast Bulletin the actor fled the scene on Wednesday with plans to fly back to the US.

According to a tweet from Nine News Brisbane, a spokesperson for the film called the reports “completely false”.

Depp was said to be chasing Heard, his wife of just over three months, who returned to the US with the couple’s two dogs last Friday.

According to the source, the big-budget film has been plagued by delays due to the pair’s incessant fighting.

At the time of Heard’s departure, Depp allegedly “went AWOL” from the set for nearly two hours.

“He disappeared and no one knew where he was,” a source told the Bulletin.

“He eventually came back and continued filming but no one had any idea where he was or why he left.”

The film, the fifth in the Pirates franchise, is already substantially over its $250 million budget.

The actor has been the subject of much attention recently after Australian agriculture minister Barnaby Joyce threatened to have his dogs put down.

The 51-year-old brought the dogs, named Boo and Pistol, into Australia without declaring them breaking local quarantine laws.

Heard and Depp met on the set of The Rum Diary in 2011 and have been plagued with break-up rumours ever since.

Most recently, the pair were said to have separated in April over Heard’s close friendship with gay activist iO Tillett Wright.
