Mike Nichols, ‘The Graduate’ director, dies
Nine-time Tony Award winner on Broadway and Oscar-winning director Mike Nichols has died, aged 83.
Nichols famously directed films such as Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, The Graduate and Carnal Knowledge.
He is one of the few people to win Oscar, Tony, Emmy and Grammy awards.
He was married to Diane Sawyer, former anchorwoman of US ABC’s World News Tonight on US television.
ABC News President James Goldston said in a statement: “He was a true visionary, winning the highest honours in the arts for his work as a director, writer, producer and comic and was one of a tiny few to win the EGOT-an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony in his lifetime.
“No one was more passionate about his craft than Mike.”
According to Variety, Broadway will dim its lights on Friday night in honour of the prolific director, who regularly contributed to the legendary stage.
